Join us for a day of myth, movement and ritual photography on Dartmoor.

We're gathering an intimate group of 8 women who want to explore what it means to be seen in their fullness
~ playful and fierce, sensual and wise, messy and magnificent.

This is what we're creating together.

What to Expect

~ Arrival and grounding (indoors) ~
~ Embodied warm-up and archetypal exploration (indoors) ~
~ Photoshoot across three locations (Woods, River, Tor) ~
~ Closing circle back at base ~

Why we're doing this

Myth and media have long constructed what it means to be a (socially acceptable and valued) woman.

The famous Barbie monologue comes to mind:
"You have to be thin, but not too thin... You're supposed to stay pretty for men, but not so pretty that you tempt them too much...
You have to never get old, never be rude, never show off, never be selfish, never fall down, never fail, never show fear, never get out of line.
It's too hard! It's too contradictory and nobody gives you a medal or says thank you!"

These patriarchal ideals become deeply ingrained. Even as feminists, we've held ourselves up to these standards and felt lacking.
This is internalised patriarchy – and we all do it.

So what next?

We're Gaia and Tessa, facilitators and artists on a mission to liberate the feminine and tell a fuller, richer tale of womanhood.

We're weaving together a decade of women's empowerment facilitation with a decade of professional photography
to break out of socially constructed ideas of femininity and celebrate the range of human emotion and the diversity of bodies.

We want to explore the feminine through the female gaze. Where we get to be all of it:
the raw, messy unfiltered, the tender, playful innocent, the holy, wild and powerful.

The Journey

In this embodied ritual photoshoot on Dartmoor, we guide you through three archetypal forces that live within you.
As we move through ancient mossy woodlands, rushing icy rivers, and epic expansive tors, we'll explore
The Fool and The Warrior.

Through visualisation, ritual and dance, you'll meet these aspects of yourself,
moving from your felt inner landscape to the outer landscape and each other.
We'll capture on camera the living breathing feeling of these energies.

The Fool

The part of us untainted by tragedy. With child-like innocence, insatiably curious,
where everything becomes an opportunity for play.

The Warrior

The protector of our psyche. As ferocious and loving as a mama lion,
she takes no shit and goes for what she wants with fierce determination.

You’ll leave with access to the collection of images we co-create together,
as well as any individual portraits captured throughout the day that reflect the motifs and energies of each archetype we work with.
These photographs honour your wholeness and your body - loosening shame’s grip and celebrating beauty in all its forms.

But beyond the images themselves, you’ll carry something deeper:
an embodied sense of these archetypal qualities that you can call on in daily life.

Many participants describe feeling more at home and connected to their bodies,
experiencing beauty in the body they have right now and braver in their self-expression after the experience.

How to join

“Gaia always holds a safe and loving space to explore the depths of our souls. It's one of the only places I have in my life to truly be myself – no expectations, limitations, or judgement.”

Tessa Bricknell

Tessa is a photographer who creates spaces for women to explore their self-expression, celebrate themselves, and honour the season of life they’re in. She’s passionate about transforming the photoshoot experience - shifting the focus from posing bodies to feeling them. From image to experience.

Over the past seven years, Tessa has worked professionally as a photographer both in the UK and internationally, capturing portraits of visionaries and artists, and crafting storytelling imagery for conscious fashion brands. In recent years, Tessa’s practice has evolved to centre more deeply on embodiment - photographing ceremonial moments for women stepping into new chapters of their lives and celebrating the transitions they’re embracing.

This year, she has led collective photoshoot experiences that celebrate body diversity and open conversations around how we connect to beauty - inviting us to unlearn the narratives we’ve inherited about appearance and to reconnect with our true personal essence.

More at: www.tessabricknell.co.uk

“I have really struggled to love my body in the last few years and to watch it change from that of a teenager into a woman. Tessa’s photos made me feel so beautiful in the body I have now. I LOVE every single image.”
