What if there was a place of shared space and time where we can meet each other through sound and movement? A place where we were held by the warm glow of a fire; a place where we could show up with all of our wirednesses to find new ways to express ourselves? A place where the still silence of the autumn stars softened into a collaborative composition of sound to delight our senses? A place where we could find ease and relaxation by the warm glow of a roaring fire, melting into contact with each other as we dance, cuddle, play, laugh...

Join us at Fireside Flow for a community evening of movement, connection, creativity, and rest.

We will open the doors at 6.30pm and have a spacious hour to land, greet each other, drink tea, stretch our bodies and set our intentions. At 7.30(ish), we will let go of our verbal conversation and move towards opening the jam space. Shalika will hold a gentle warm-up to help us land fully into our bodies and connect with the intentions of contact improvisation. We will then sit together, inviting movement, sound and all the things in between.

The jam space will be open for three hours. During that time, the invitation will be to flow freely between dance, stillness, silence and sound, warmth and cold, connection and solitude. You are so welcome to dance for 3 hours, sit alone for 3 hours, make music for 3 hours, cuddle for 3 hours, or anything in between.

At the end of the 3 hour jam space, we will hold a closing circle and invite a slow departure from the space.

## What is Contact Improvisation?

Contact Improvisation is an open-ended exploration of the kinaesthetic possibilities of bodies moving through contact. Sometimes wild and athletic, sometimes quiet and meditative, it is open to all bodies and enquiring minds. The practice includes rolling, falling, being upside down, following a physical point of contact, supporting and giving weight to a partner. It is a free play with balance, of no set outcome, bringing forth a physical/emotional truth about a shared moment of movement that leaves the participants informed, centred and enlivened. (Paxton, Chung)

## What is acoustic sound?

For me, acoustic sound means something that is more fluid than music, more melodic than percussion; a term that encompasses any noise that we may make alone or together, using anything that we can find in the space. Things may get a little weird...

##Space Guidelines

Consent
Touch, weight share and proximity are negotiated by communication. The invitation is to do this through the body. Please use your voice also if need.

Move with shared responsibility
Stay aware of bodies, momentum, and instruments that may be in the space.

Say within your skill level
Choose movements you can support with control, stability, and mutual agreement. Move at the speed of your awareness — not faster than you can sense and respond to.

Non conversational space
Keep verbal communication off the dance space so somatic listening stays central. Check‑ins are welcome when needed.

Regulate your nervous system
Pause, step out, or rest whenever you need. Slowing down is part of the dance.

Non‑sexual space
This space invites intimacy but it is not a space for erotic energy. Keep touch, intention, and presence oriented toward a shared exploration of movement and sound.

Vulnerability and non‑judgement
Bring openness, kindness, and curiosity. Allow yourself and others to show up imperfectly. No performance or judgement, just honest presence.

## Other details and practicalities

This event is for people with any experience or contact improvisation and/or creating sound.

Complete beginners may find it easier to participate in the dance aspect of the jam space if you join one of Shalika’s contact improvisation classes (Thursdays 7.30pm at the Zed shed, Penryn).

We are offering two independent evenings of Fireside Flow. You are very welcome to attend just one or to attend both.

This is a drug- and alcohol-free space. We ask that you arrive and remain free from substances throughout the event.

Please wear comfortable clothing and avoid clothing with anything hard on them, e.g. zips and buttons.

We will bring some simple percussion instruments. Please bring along any instruments that you would like to play during the evening.

Tickets are on a sliding scale of £10/£15. We will not turn anyone away due to money limitations – if you are in need of a lower-price entrance, then please contact us.

## Info about Shalika…

Hello I am Shalika , co-space holder of Fireside Flow.
I believe the closest I can get to my truth and god is through improvisation, especially that of sound and touch/movement.

I offer weekly movement based practices to my community in Cornwall. Contact Improvisation Dance for adults and also ContaKids, a playfull movement practice for Parents and Children.

In these spaces the main message is everything is okay. We remember this truth through exploring in our bodies the infinite possibilities of movement in response to self and others. Reminding ourselves of the power of one of the first languages we receive as babies, touch/movement. Remembering this language provides deep regulation and safety to our nervous system and a higher capacity to relate easefully and from a deeper sense of self.

I am a space holder for places that allow people to connect through the language of the physical and energy body and I am so excited to be collaborating with Jenni for Fireside Flow, adding sound to this mix to evolve 3 hours of creative communication and magic through the bodies first and, sometimes forgotten, language of movement and sound.

I am also a facilitator of Accesses Superconscious Method, a soul embodiment tool supporting people to receive perceive, interpret and express the Superconsciousness that flows through their bodies.

## Info about Jenni

I have been practising conscious dance for the last decade, and contact improvisation is now my favourite. On a journey into the wild, I moved to Chyan with my daughter a couple of years ago and have built a beautiful yurt home for us here.

I love creating opportunities for people to come together and connect in ways that are deeper than the everyday. My work as a kindergarten assistant grounds me in play every day, and I am excited to bring this energy into an adult space where we can move together through dance and sound.

I have recently become a harp player and found a new flow in expressing myself through my voice. I am SO excited about what we might create together.
