Monthly Members PsySocial

Topic: Touch, Consent, and Psychedelic Therapy (rescheduled from September)

For this month's PsySocial we welcome ‘Wheel of Consent’ leader Adam Wilder, an experienced circling and authentic relating facilitator and coach, along with psychotherapist, Lizzi Luminati.

Following on from the success of his workshop at this year's psychedelic Breaking Convention conference, Adam will be joining our own Mags Houston in discussion on the key issues when it comes to consent between guides and patients in the arena of psychedelic therapy.

At a time when ethics in the psychedelic therapy world are being called into question more than ever before, Adam will use the Wheel of Consent framework to show us how we can explore our "shadows", gaining insights into the desires we suppress in ourselves, so that we might be better equipped to support people in a psychedelic experience.

“When we interact with a client, partner, co-worker or family member, are we doing what they want us to do, or what they allow us to do? What’s the difference and why does it matter? Our professional work is not immune from the power of our often unconscious desires, be they for the physical contact we may not have in our private lives, the validation we secretly seek or perhaps the need to be experienced as wise and powerful. Whilst we can mitigate the impact of these desires with professional protocols and training, our current models of consent and touch dynamics are often limited because they lack a clear map for tracking the fundamental element: ‘who is this action for?’" - Adam Wilder

Adam will be running an online course with us in the new year which will delve into the detail of Wheel of Consent and how it might help us be better psychedelic guides.

Can't make it in-person? On 26 October, Adam and Lizzi will be hosting a free online taster. Register here now!

Location: Back at the Shack!

Join us at 7pm on Thursday 9th November at our favourite London hangout, LoveShack. A cool, cosy, candlelit patch of vegan paradise tucked under the railway arches of Cambridge Heath Station. They have an enticing new menu for 2023 (Shroom steaks and lion's mane cacao!) so you may want to arrive hungry. We just ask that you order and eat before we kick off at 7.30pm, or after the speaker has finished.

Flying solo? The majority of people arrive at our Monthly PsySocial events alone! It's a great opportunity to meet other likeminded people and members of our community. We leave plenty of time after the talks for conversations and connections.

Schedule
19:00: Arrive, socialise & nibbles
20:00: Mini workshop and Q&A discussion with Adam Wilder and Lizzi Luminati
21:00: Socialise & network!
