Following its acclaimed, award-winning run at the Edinburgh Fringe, Jonny Forever brings Thank You, Fuck You, and I’m Sorry to Margate — an intensely intimate live performance that sits somewhere between concert, theatre, requiem and ritual.
Created in the wake of his father’s death, this is a story of bereavement told through live music, mythic storytelling, film, animation, home video and ritual.
Jonny takes us deep into the underworld of memory, weaving emotionally raw songs with VHS footage filmed by his late father, newly created animation and fragments of a fictionalised 1990s childhood. A chthonic stag becomes a guide through the landscape of grief as past and present bleed together — documentary becomes memory, memory becomes myth.
At the centre of the performance is an altar, around which Jonny explores remembrance, anger, forgiveness, love and release. The audience are not simply spectators, but witnesses to a shared ceremony in which private grief becomes something communal.
The work moves through the cycle of diagnosis, decline, death and aftermath, holding space for the full and contradictory experience of grief — its devastation, absurdity, tenderness, rage and unexpected beauty.
And then, somehow, it turns towards the light.
🕯️ THE RITUAL
Built around Jonny Forever’s debut album, Thank You, Fuck You, and I’m Sorry, the performance has been described as a “pagan requiem” — a genre-defying collision of stark songwriting, expansive soundscapes, spoken word and ritual.
The show culminates in a collective release: a final prayer giving way to an ecstatic, euphoric finale that reframes grief not simply as an ending, but as connection, continuity and transformation.
Following the performance, Jonny will lead DEATH DISCO — an ecstatic cut-and-paste DJ set that raises the spirits of the living and the dead.
Drawing on pop classics, floor-fillers, oddities, unlikely mashups, funeral rites and esoteric poetry, the audience are invited to dance through whatever the ritual has stirred up.
Come for the requiem. Stay for the wake.
ABOUT JONNY FOREVER
Jonny Forever is a multidisciplinary artist working across music, storytelling, performance and ritual. A musician, composer, performer and storyteller with more than two decades of experience, his work creates spaces where grief, transformation and collective witnessing can meet.
Thank You, Fuck You, and I’m Sorry received five-star reviews at the 2026 Edinburgh Fringe, alongside the FringeReview Hidden Gem Award and a Best of the Fringe accolade from The Vile Arts.
Jonny is also the musical director, arranger and performer for Charlotte Church’s Pop Dungeon, a cult live show he helped develop and which has toured the UK and Europe to sold-out audiences.
This performance explores death, terminal illness, grief and bereavement, including emotionally intense material relating to family relationships and loss. It also contains coarse language, ritual elements and moments of audience participation.
