Psychedelics & Romantic Relationships

Have you  ever had a psychedelic experience and felt that it enhanced your relationship with your partner or a loved one in some way? Perhaps you want to understand the science behind that feeling?

Are you in a relationship at the moment and keen to understand how we might be able to use psychedelics to improve our connections with partners?

Or do you work with couples and people experiencing conflict in their relationships and want to know more about a potential future treatment option?

We will explore how psychedelics could be the new “love drugs", with the power to improve our romantic relationships.

In recent years, a growing body of research has begun to illuminate the potential of psychedelics to profoundly impact various aspects of human psychology, including emotional intimacy and relationship dynamics. 

Studies from esteemed institutions, such as Imperial College London, have begun to publish evidence that psychedelics may significantly enhance sexual satisfaction between partners, as well as pleasure and communication. 

The therapeutic use of MDMA in couples therapy is emerging as an exciting new field of study, offering fresh insights into how these substances can facilitate deeper emotional connections and resolve interpersonal conflicts. And we have a feeling that this is only the beginning!
 

What to expect

Tommaso Barba and Sarah Tilley will invite you to explore the cutting-edge intersection of psychopharmacology and relationship therapy.

They will delve into the scientific underpinnings of how psychedelics, often dubbed as 'relationship enhancers,' can serve as pivotal tools in the advancement of couples therapy. Beyond the exploration of potential benefits, the session will rigorously engage with the ethical considerations, challenges, and implications of integrating pharmacological interventions within the delicate framework of human relationships and therapy. 

Join us for a comprehensive exploration of this emerging frontier, poised to redefine therapeutic approaches to love and intimacy! We will welcome interactive discussion during the session, and there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions to our speakers.

SPEAKERS

Tommaso Barba

Tommaso Barba is a PhD candidate at the Centre for Psychedelic Research, Imperial College London. Tommaso's research is focused on understanding the brain effects of short-acting psychedelics, like 5-MeO-DMT, and the potential role of psychedelic drugs for wellbeing. 

Tommaso is particularly interested in the effects of psychedelics and MDMA on romantic love and couples’ intimacy, believing that these drugs hold potential for improving couples' connection when administered in the right settings, like couples therapy. He has a background in neuroscience and psychoanalysis. 

Sarah Tilley

Sarah Tilley is a musician, educator, therapist, psychedelic guide, integration specialist, and couples therapist specialising in psychedelic therapy, modern relationships, and sexual wellness. She is founder and CEO of Beautiful Space based in the Netherlands, host of The Intimacy Lab integration program, and she frequently speaks publicly on the use of psilocybin in psychedelic assisted couples therapy and her patient outcomes.

Sarah helps couples and individuals change their stories and reset their life-path by healing generational trauma, addressing mental illness and creating greater intimacy with themselves and others. At the heart of her work is community and sustainability

Sarah has worked with plant medicine and altered states for 20 years with individuals, groups and couples. She has guided hundreds of altered-state journeys with music, working with powerful intention and ongoing integration. 

Beautiful Space is currently in research collaboration with Imperial College London centre for psychedelic research, investigating psilocybin on romantic relationships with the Beautiful Space Method of psychological support.  Sarah is a member of the Complementary Medical Association and a long-term student of Esther Perel.
