A fantastic tale of wonder and magic, featuring enchanting shadow puppetry, a ‘crankie theatre’ with moving scenery, storytelling and sparkling live music. This wonderful story has been playfully adapted from the modern fairytale by classic children’s author, Joan Aiken.

There will be 2 performances at 2:15pm and 4pm. Please select the tickets for the performance you wish to attend in the box on the right of this page.

There will be refreshments available on the day - please bring separate cash for these.

Far away in the snowy North country, young Nils lives with his clever Granny. She is making him a gift - a magical patchwork quilt. It is nearly finished…when suddenly it disappears…
Wild weather, magic spells, and twelve very clever camels all play their part…but will Nils get his quilt back in time for his special day?
This magical, musical story-ride features a ‘crankie theatre.’This handcrafted theatre-box with scrolling scenery inside is a slice of pre-cinematic magic, and features illustrations inspired by Jan Pienkowski’s original artwork from the book. We are delighted to have been granted permission by Joan Aiken's estate to present and adapt this story.
