On the longest day of the year, we gather to open the voice, not as performance, but as a portal.

This is a guided, embodied journey into sound, presence, and connection.
A space to soften the inner critic, awaken your creative energy, and experience the voice as something alive, instinctive, and shared.

Uran Apak, an Istanbul-born, London-based artist, facilitator and co-founder of the UK Vocal Improv Festival and creator of Voice DNA, will be your guide on this journey.

No experience needed.

What to expect:

Through breath, sound, and gentle facilitation, we’ll explore:

  • Voice as a tool for grounding and nervous system regulation
  • Sound as a gateway into play, expression, and altered states
  • Group vocal improvisation as a practice of connection and co-creation
  • A safe, held space where you can be heard without needing to perform

We’ll move between simple guided exercises, playful vocal exploration, and collective sound journeys using a loop station, allowing moments of both depth and lightness.

This is not about singing “well”.
It’s about remembering that your voice and curiosity is already enough.

For this event Uran will prepare a custom solstice sound journey using sound healing instruments, electronics and live looping which will be activated with guided collective voice and movement.

Why voice?

The voice sits at the meeting point of body,  emotion, and expression.

When we free the voice:

  • we regulate the nervous system
  • we release held tension
  • we reconnect with spontaneity and joy
  • we experience ourselves in relation to others, without masks

For many, this can feel surprisingly expansive, sometimes even resembling the openness and connection people associate with psychedelic states.

Why the Summer Solstice?

The solstice has long been a moment of celebration, expression, and transition.

Together, we’ll mark this threshold through sound, not as a performance, but as a shared experience of aliveness, presence, and connection.

Who this is for

  • You’re curious about your voice but don’t necessarily identify as a “singer”
  • You’re exploring healing, embodiment, or conscious community
  • You enjoy practices like breathwork, meditation, ecstatic dance, or sound journeys
  • You long to feel more free, expressive, and connected
  • You want to explore something playful, a little edgy, but safely held

You’re also welcome if you already love singing and want to experience it in a more open, improvisational, and embodied way.

A note on safety

Working with the voice can feel vulnerable.

You’ll never be pushed to go beyond your boundaries.
You’re always free to pause, observe, or participate at your own pace.

The space is gently guided and grounded in consent and care.

About the Facilitator: Uran Apak

Uran Apak is an artist, performer, and voice facilitator working at the intersection of music, improvisation, and embodied practice.

He is co-founder of the UK Vocal Improv Collective and part of the team behind the annual UK Vocal Improv Festival, one of the UK’s leading spaces for collaborative, improvised voice practice. Over the past decade, he has facilitated workshops, jams, and performances for hundreds of participants across the UK, creating spaces where voice becomes a tool for connection, play, and transformation.

Alongside his facilitation work, Uran maintains an active artistic practice as a singer, composer, and live performer. His work spans solo releases, interdisciplinary collaborations, and performances at the Vortex Jazz Club, Southbank Centre, Roundhouse, Somerset House and Glastonbury Festival. His approach is shaped not only by music, but by ongoing explorations in movement, visual art, and somatic practices.

As a facilitator, he creates spaces that feel playful, creatively free and deeply held, blending vocal improvisation and community-based practice to support honest and curious exploration.

What participants say

“Uran created a wonderfully honest, trusting and exploratory environment. The workshop helped me play with my voice in new ways and my ears were in awe of the tapestry of sound we created altogether.” Dear Wife (musician)

“A totally beautiful, heart-opening, playful and joyful journey into the world of voice improvisation… he not only creates supportive conditions through instruction but also embodies the very thing he is trying to evoke: a deep ease and openness.” Jody

“So wonderfully, delightfully brilliant. Recently at a jam session I found myself on the mic and not giving a f**k what anyone thought, all thanks to Uran's sessions.” Louise
