Could the gut microbiome - the millions of microorganisms in our gut - be the next frontier in psychedelic research?

The psychedelic renaissance has sparked renewed interest in the potential of psychedelics to treat mental health disorders. Recent research highlights the significant role of the gut microbiome in modulating their effects.

In this seminar, chemist and researcher Dr Robert Karbgo will explore the current understanding of the gut-brain axis and its impact on mood, cognition, and behaviour. He will also discuss how the microbiome can affect psychedelics and the potential for personalized psychedelic therapy that targets someone's unique makeup of bacteria and fungi.

Key Topics:
• The gut-brain axis and its influence on mental health
• The interaction between the gut microbiome and psychedelic substances
• The impact of microbiome variations on individual responses to psychedelics
• Potential risks and benefits of microbiome-mediated effects on psychedelic therapy
• Future directions for integrating microbiome-targeted interventions in psychedelic therapy

This online talk will be followed by a Q&A, giving the opportunity to ask Dr Karbgo about psychedelics and the microbiome, and share any thoughts and perspectives. All ticket holders will be emailed a copy of the recording.
