SIGILS IN EARTH AND FIRE
Cuttlefish Casting Jewellery Workshop
A Dead Good Festival Event
Thursday 29th October 2026
Time: 1:30pm - 4:00pm
Smith & Sun, 7 Thanet Road, Margate, CT9 1UA
£20
Join Tara Li-An, creator of Smith & Sun, for an immersive journey into the worlds of sigil magic, ceremonial fire, and ancient metal casting.
Begin by creating your own personal sigil — a symbol charged with your intention. You’ll be guided through the process of designing and drawing your sigil before activating it through the transformative power of ceremonial burning.
Then, step into an ancient metalworking tradition: cuttlefish casting, a method of casting metal using carved cuttlefish bone moulds that dates back centuries.
Using your own sigil and intention, you’ll carve a mould into cuttlefish bone before pouring molten pewter to create a one-of-a-kind talisman — part artwork, part magical tool, and part ancient craft.
You’ll leave with:
- Your own activated sigil
- An experience of ceremonial fire magic
- Hands-on experience with traditional cuttlefish casting
- A unique pewter talisman forged with your personal intention
Create the symbol. Feed it to the fire. Cast it into metal. Carry the magic with you.

ABOUT YOUR GUIDE

Tara Li-An is the creator of Smith & Sun, a jewellery and artefact atelier rooted in myth, mysticism, and magick. Drawing inspiration from ancient symbols, memento mori, and the metalwork of early civilisations, Tara hand-carves powerful amulets and talismans in bronze, silver, and gold. Each piece is crafted with ethically sourced materials, vintage elements, and recycled metals, honouring both the earth and ancestral traditions.
At the heart of her work is the belief that we are deeply connected — to our ancestors, to each other, and to the natural and spiritual worlds. Her creations serve as adornments, ritual tools, and carriers of healing intent, bridging the timeless with the contemporary.
