Seasonal Surprises — Cooking Workshop & Community Meal

Join us for a hands-on, seasonal cooking workshop celebrating the arrival of spring.

We know that cooking seasonally can be challenging. Sometimes you pull a vegetable out of your bag and think — what do I do with this?! This workshop is designed around exactly those moments: the vegetables you didn’t grow up cooking, but that nature offers in abundance each spring.

Together we’ll cook a seasonal feast:
(menu may change slightly depending on what's available ofc)

– Sorrel soup
– Salt-baked beetroot (what is salt-baked beetroot? Come and find out!)
– Smoked tofu steak with celeriac purée & charred broccoli
– Potato pie
– Lemon posset with rhubarb

Along the way, we’ll give you tools and techniques you can take home to impress your friends and family.

Cooking Workshop
🕚 11:00am – 1:00pm
£25 early bird / £30 per person

This session will be led by Eat Club — a charity that teaches cooking skills to children and young people — bringing their knowledge, energy, and passion into the kitchen.

🍽️ The Community Meal
🕛 12:00pm – 2:00pm
£5 per person

After the workshop, we’ll gather around the table to share what’s been cooked — open to everyone. Expect good food, friendly faces, and that unmistakable veg box spirit.

All proceeds from the event will go directly to Eat Club and Calthorpe Community Gardens, helping them continue their brilliant work. Calthorpe Community Gardens provides gardening, sports, educational programmes, creative activities, and social support to the local community.

This isn’t about perfection or restaurant-style cooking. It’s about understanding ingredients, cooking with confidence, and reconnecting with the seasons through food.
