On May 30th, you are invited to venture into the hills just ten minutes north of Portland, to join a gaggle of fellow weirdos for an early evening of conversation, connection, and magic.
Featuring artists/writers/mystics/astrologers/ritualists, Pallas K. Augustine, Gray Crawford, Diana Rose Harper, Renee Sills, Amanda Moreno, art from Hugh Tran, hospitality and talents of the North Star crew - Hawk Grubb, Joshua Proto, Dira Osland, AND live music from Queen of Swords aka Aerin Fogel.
Magical people need time together, now and always.
Wonderful things happen when we get time to connect with each other.
Time together changes us, our relationships, and our world(s).
On May 30th, 2026, two magical happenings come together for your amusement and edification:
- Pallas is visiting Portland, the home of their first real astrology community connections, for the first time since 2019! Their crowdfunded book, The IC: An Astrology of Coming Home is already on a second edition and needs a proper celebration with some of the incredible people who helped make the book happen.
- North Star Campout—the pop-up town where mystics, magicians, astrologers, and esotericists gather to learn from one another, expand their perspectives, and spend quality time together in community—RETURNS this August and tickets kick off for sale May 30th!
Since there is such beautiful overlap between YOU—folks stoked about The IC AND North Star—and conceptually given the Imum Coeli is also the angle of the north…we’ve joined forces to present THE HEAVENS BELOW, a sweet social, magical, and educational gathering that celebrates The IC AND brings a taste of North Star Campout to the city.
What to expect
Doors open at 3pm. Come early to get a mini-reading! Find your spot in the backyard! Get your herbal iced teas! Check out the art for sale by illustrator Hugh Tran! Get your IC book signed! Take your photobooth pics! Grab your raffle tickets!
To receive a complimentary raffle ticket, you are invited to DRESS UP FANCY as your favourite deity OR lord of your IC (no worries if you don’t know what that means).
Programming begins at 4pm:
- A warm welcome by the North Star team—Hawk Grubb, Joshua Proto, and Dira Osland
- An opening invitation by ritualist and astrologer Amanda Moreno
- Gray Crawford facilitates a panel with Diana Rose Harper, Renee Sills, and Pallas K. Augustine on the applied, embodied, and relational turns in contemporary astrology
- Readings by Pallas K. Augustine from The IC: An Astrology of Coming Home and a to-be-announced upcoming book
- Live solo music set by magnetic mercurial healing-rock project Queen of Swords aka astrologer and lightweaver Aerin Fogel
Then we’ll turn toward less structured social gathering for connection, conversation, and (optional) sharing of food and more tea around 6pm.
Find new friends! Catch up with old ones! Reserve your North Star Campout pass to receive a $25 dollar discount and a special treat at the event! With more mini-readings, raffles, photobooth, and books and art for sale! Leave whenever you like or hang until Venus-Jupiter goes out of sight.
The ticket options
All proceeds from tickets, mini-readings, and raffle will go toward flying out North Star’s favourite magical medic to the campout in August! Any other funds will go to support the travel costs of other North Star speakers, teachers, and volunteers.
Just the Event Ticket - $25 (teas included)
Ticket with Event & Dinner (and teas) - $50
Dinner served will be slow smoked brisket (gluten free, obviously not vegan) by grillmaster & Jupiter incarnate, Joshua Proto. Sides of tasty hearty slaws and fresh fruits will also be on offer (gf and vegan).
You don’t need a dinner ticket to stay for the social gathering! You can even order your own pizza to the house. If you use dishes for outside food though, you’ll have to do your own.
Practical things
Tickets are limited to 60 participants.
If it looks like it’s going to rain, we encourage people to bring masks because we will sardine into the (large) living room.
The venue
THE HEAVENS BELOW will be hosted at a spacious and blessed private residence in Vancouver, WA. Address to go out to confirmed participants closer to the event.
Please note parking is limited, so carpooling is strongly encouraged. We can support self-organizing this from Portland if you're real stuck.
The closest public transportation stop is a 15-20 minute walk, but we will share a phone number to confirmed participants to come get ferried from the bus stop to the residence.
The main events will be outside on the patio and in the backyard.
Mini-readings will be inside.
Dinner will be served buffet-style inside, and you can eat in or out.
The programming will be outdoors on a deck space, and the seating a mix of camp-style chairs (including your own if you want to bring it!), picnic blankets for floor sitters, with standing room for the anti-sitters.
There are two gender-neutral washrooms indoors. Both are at least one step up into the house or onto the deck.
The main area will be non-smoking, but there will be a smoking area near the compost.
Children who know how to be gentle with creatures in rehabilitation are welcome to attend and enjoy the bird sanctuary (yes, it is a real glorious thing).
No one will be admitted without a ticket to respect the space and participants.
Please note the venue is someone’s real home, so respect is non-negotiable. Amenities and customer service will not be to professional event venue standards. We’re kin. Tolerance, good will, and understanding go a long way.
Who’s this for
You definitely do not need to know any of us to attend. If you don’t, make sure you introduce yourself when you arrive! Pallas and Hawk are both very approachable and recognizable Sag risings who would be happy to introduce you to someone nearby to hang with.
Many of us will know each other though and have spent time together before, some of us for many years, which can bring a “clique-y” vibe to the event. There will likely be jokes, emotional expressions, and public displays of affection. We are also (mostly) very queer. If any of that isn’t your vibe, please steer clear and thank you for trusting your discernment.
