5-MeO-DMT - Navigating the therapeutic, cultural and evolutionary use of “The God Molecule”

Often referred to as The God Molecule or “The Most Powerful Psychedelic in the world". The recent boom in 5-MeO-DMT research has led this potent psychedelic to be considered a more effective or viable treatment for depression than psilocybin.

Capable of inducing ego-dissolution and near-death experiences (NDE) states in mere minutes, 5-MeO-DMT has the power to open doors to profound spiritual experiences and personal growth. But with great power comes great responsibility, and the rise of faux-shamans and untrained facilitators has led to many users reporting traumatic experiences.

So, what exactly is 5-MeO-DMT? What effects can you expect it to have on your psyche? And how can you safely navigate the various types of practitioners and facilitators to ensure a positive and transformative experience?

Join us online on Thursday 11th May at 7PM UK as we welcome one of the world's leading experts on 5-MeO-DMT, Dr Malin Vedøy Uthaug, 5-MeO-DMT practitioner and educator, Chad Charles, and Head of DMT Research at Imperial College, Dr Chris Timmermann, for a deep dive into the mysterious and often confusing landscape of 5-MeO-DMT.

Chad and Dr Chris Timmermann will share their wealth of knowledge and experience working with this powerful psychedelic in a therapeutic context, offering insights into its potential benefits and risks, and will venture further into the role of 5-MeO-DMT in the wider psychedelic landscape and our human evolution.

This event will be recorded and the video will be sent to everyone who registers.

SPEAKERS

Dr Malin Vedøy Uthaug

Dr Malin Vedøy Uthaug is an altered states of consciousness researcher from Norway and one of the world leading experts on 5-MeO-DMT. She is on a mission to further uncover the uncharted territories of consciousness of both mind and body for so to harness the knowledge for human
healing, thriving and optimization.

Dr Uthaug has a background in health and social psychology, completed her PhD in Psychopharmacology at Maastricht University under supervision of Professor Johannes Ramaekers. Her doctoral dissertation featured five original naturalistic observational studies on the effects of Ayahuasca and 5-MeO-DMT, and was completed in record speed (2,5 years) making her a PhD by the age of 27.

After her PhD defense, Dr Uthaug worked at The Centre of Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London, previously led by Professor Robin Carhart-Harris, now led by Dr David Erritzøe. Here she continued exploring the effects of not only 5-MeO-DMT, but also (Holotropic) Breathwork.

Today, she is co-leading a first phase-1 trial on the effects of intramuscularly administered 5-meO-DMT assessed through holistic means at Swinburne University of Technology together with Professor Susan Rossell and Dr Martin Williams. The trial is employing not only imaging techniques, but also various assessments of wellbeing rooted in physiology, biology and psychology to uncover the mechanisms of effect of 5-MeO-DMT and to further elucidate the mind-body connection. The trial will start early 2023 following completion of fundraising.

Besides being a researcher, Dr Uthaug is also a scientific advisor, an editor for the ‘Journal of Psychedelics Studies’, a board member for the American podcast Psychedelics Today and one of the original co-founders of Norwegian Psychedelic Science whose main aim is to educate the general public as well as researchers, and mental health practitioners in Norway about psychedelics. Furthermore, she was also the recipient of the Willy Schweitzer Award for Young Researchers at Insight Conference in Berlin 2021. Last but not least, Dr Uthaug overcome her thalassophobia by training in freediving. In April 2022, during her first-ever freediving competition, she set two national records for Norway. Since then she has continued training and competing for Norway.

Dr Christopher Timmermann

Christopher Timmermann (PhD) obtained a BSc in Psychology in Santiago, Chile and an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Bologna in Italy. He is currently a post-doc at Imperial College London at the Centre for Psychedelic Research, where he leads the DMT Research Group, specialized in the potent psychedelics N,N-DMT and 5-MeO-DMT and their effects in the human brain and consciousness.

His empirical and theoretical work focuses on the neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, pharmacology, beliefs and ethics of psychedelics, their relationship to consciousness and applications in mental health. His work has been covered in BBC, CBC, Wired, The Times, New Scientist, and is a columnist for Psychology Today. He is also the director for the Foundation for the Study of Human Consciousness (EcoH) in Chile

He has guided over 800 people on journeys with 5-MeO-DMT— totalling over 1400 sessions (most being in one-on-one contexts)—and continues to do so.

Chad has a background in breath, primarily Conscious Connected Breathwork and follows and practises non-dual teachings as well as transpersonal psychology, trauma release mechanisms, and mindfulness to bring about a holistic approach to body, mind, and energy.

On top of having been featured in multiple podcasts and interviews, he has spoken live on the topic in 5 countries plus online conferences.

Chad’s private practice is in Montreal where he guides participants in one-on-one sessions in a therapy context. He also supports established and aspiring practitioners through mentorship. Apart from having served in over 15 countries, he travels to different areas of Canada to be with participants who wish to practice surrender with 5-MeO-DMT.
