Cannabis is one of the most widely used psychoactive substances globally, yet its effects on women remain poorly understood. Despite growing evidence that sex hormones, metabolism, and neurobiology shape cannabis response, much of the existing research still relies on male-centric models or overlooks sex-specific variables altogether.

This webinar brings together leading experts to examine the pharmacology of cannabis through a female-specific lens. We’ll explore how cannabinoids interact with hormonal systems, neurotransmitter pathways, and the female endocannabinoid system, and what this means for efficacy, risk, and therapeutic use across the female lifespan.

Hosted by Hystelica, the session will feature presentations and discussion from Dr. Grace Blest-Hopley, Dr. Shabnam Sarshar, and Tali Avron, drawing on clinical research, pharmacology, and real-world evidence to unpack where the science currently stands—and where critical gaps remain.

The event will include:

An overview of cannabis pharmacology and sex differences in response

Discussion of hormonal influences, metabolism, and mental health outcomes

A panel conversation on implications for research, clinical practice, and women’s health

A live Q&A with the speakers

Our Panelists

Dr. Grace Blest-Hopley is a neuroscientist specialising in psychedelics, cannabinoids, and women’s mental health. She is the founder of Hystelica, Chief Scientific Officer at NW Pharmatech, and Research Director at Heroic Hearts, where she oversees clinical research and psychedelic-assisted therapy programmes.

Dr. Shabnam Sarshar is a pharmaceutical scientist and women’s health expert with a background in medicinal plants, phytochemistry, and evidence-based cannabis therapies. Her work bridges traditional botanical knowledge with modern pharmacology to advance integrative, female-focused healthcare.

Tali Avron is a clinical research manager and psychedelic science consultant with over a decade of experience in clinical trials, regulatory strategy, and cannabinoid research. Formerly Clinical Trials Manager at MAPS Europe, she now leads projects focused on women’s experiences in psychedelic research and harm reduction.

This is an educational event intended for researchers, clinicians, practitioners, students, and anyone interested in evidence-based discussions on women’s health and psychoactive substances.
No medical or clinical advice will be provided.
