Now we’re getting into rocky and uncertain terrain. The ground is unmoving and cold beneath our soles. The trees and the soft animals are retreating as we walk ourselves into the shadowy place.
This is our second trial. And it’s here where we understand the labour of fetching water in a pail from the well in the winter. This is the place where we can only see if we turn all the lights off, put the fire out, and rely on the light of the moon. It’s a place we turn away from. A place we see in the corner of our eye but blink it out of view. A place of rejection and refusal and repression. This is the place where we hide the parts of ourselves we don’t want to see.
Last week we embraced the playful nature of the trickster, understanding the inventive, subversive, and creative qualities of an equally chaotic and destructive force. This week, we’re following this place deeper into the dusky realm as we explore our shadow parts. These are parts of ourselves that we judge, obscure and reject. We are going to attempt to see and acknowledge these parts, to assimilate them into ourselves, and understand how they actually make us whole, and real, and beautiful.
We’re going to be working together to navigate through the gates of a story, facing conflict and finding resolution amongst friends. We will face the shadowy hag, and storymake our way back to the path.
What to expect:
- Navigating a story told in real time
- Making with clay
- Group sharing and working
- Free writing
What to bring:
- Your own notebook / journal and pen if you have them
- There will be water, tea, and snacks, but if you'd like anything else feel free to bring it
- There's no need to bring ‘messy clothes’ or an apron for the clay work
