Consciousness Medicine with Françoise  Bourzat / Women in Psychedelics Series

In this time of disruption and uncertainty, consciousness medicine is more important than ever. 

Recent research into the healing potential of psychedelic substances has sparked a resurgence of interest in LSD, mushrooms, and other mind-expanding psychotropic substances. Yet without adequate preparation and counselling during and after the use of psychedelics, much of the transformative potential of these experiences are lost. 

Françoise Bourzat developed a therapeutic framework by combining psychotherapy with 35 years of fieldwork among the Mazatec people of Mexico, who have a long tradition of taking psychedelics as medicine. She offers guidance for people using psychedelics and other transformational processes for healing or for their spiritual development, as well as for the therapists who are guiding them along the journey.

Join Françoise as she explores indigenous wisdom, entheogens, and expanded states of consciousness for healing and growth. 

She will discuss the preparation, setting intentions and goals, and the different types of experience one may have in an expanded state of consciousness, as well as guidance on how a trained counsellor can best support someone through these states. 

Françoise will also explore the integration of the wisdom gained from such experiences into daily life, and how a guide or therapist can support the full integration of a journey after it is over.

Women in Psychedelics Webinar Series is a regular online event that hosts psychedelic women from around the world. Among them are scientists, researchers, psychiatrists, therapists, artists, bodyworkers and healers.

Françoise Bourzat

Françoise Bourzat is an expert on the traditional use of mushrooms, a trainer of psychedelic guides, and author of the book “Consciousness Medicine”. She uses a variety of techniques for accessing expanded states of consciousness to explore human potential beyond personality construct and connect with a larger sense of Self. 

Françoise pursued personal healing and growth through guided explorations with entheogens from 1987 onward and apprenticed under the masterful guidance of medicine men and women. She continues to explore the path of sacred plants healing through her travels abroad as a guide as well as a student.

Françoise was born in France. She was raised with both the farm life and the Parisian culture in her bloodlines. She resonates with the art and culture as deep as with the plants and the seasons. She travelled early to discover magic and realness everywhere, in South America and Asia. She studied psychology in Paris while being a dancer in a modern dance company.

Françoise moved to California in 1981, studied several forms of dance and body healing arts and became a bodyworker. After earning a Masters Degree in Somatic Psychology unifying touch, movement, expressive arts and mindfulness (New College of California, 1990), she received her certification as a Hakomi Mind/Body Therapist in 1991 from the Hakomi Institute of San Francisco.
