Alan has been described as warm, engaging, playful and slightly feral. He is an educator, writer, maker and storyteller.
Alan studied politics at Nottingham University before teaching in Sweden, Holland, Wales and Devon. As a teacher-educator he has worked with serving and aspiring teachers in almost 40 different countries. He is co-founder and Director of ‘The Modern Teacher: Education as an Art’. He has been a key-note contributor to live conferences in India and the UK, and online seminars in Australia, the Philippines, South Africa and North America. He has been involved in the pioneer stage of four different schools and was the UK’s representative on the European Council for Steiner Waldorf Education.
As school Principal he contributed regular articles on education to Reconnect magazine and has now turned his attention to the positive contribution nature-connectedness, and specifically rewilding, can make to adolescent mental health. His ‘Dartmoor 2050* Rewilding at its Wildest’ project has produced a map and guide to a future, wilder Dartmoor, as featured in his Reconnect ‘Greetings from 2050.’ column.
