Do you want to build a map of your local area or network?
Have you ever built a map or directory but struggled to keep it up to date?
We have some free, open source tools to help you!
The Murmurations protocol provides a simple way to make maps and directories which are easy to build, based on a collaborative distributed data, and are also easier to maintain than other maps.
Having been under constant development since 2019 Murmurations now includes a growing range of open source tools which make it easy to share data between platforms and projects.
This demo will focus on the two new Wordpress Plugins:
- The Murmurations Profile Generator - which makes it simple to publish and share details about People, Projects, Organisations, or Offers and Wants
- The Murmurations Collaborative Map Builder - which makes it simple to create, curate and update maps and directories of People, Projects, Organisations, or Offers and Wants
Join us on Tues 16th January 2024 at 16:00 GMT / 17:00 CET / 11:00 ET to learn more about Murmurations, the new Wordpress Plugins, and how you can leverage these free tools to support your community, directory, network and mapping projects.
The session is aimed towards an audience of web admins, network coordinators, map builders and developers and will run for 1 hour covering:
- An introduction to the structure and names used by the Murmurations protocol
- A demonstration of the Wordpress Profile Generator and Map Builder Plugins
- A demonstration of how Profiles created on other platforms, hosted in other places can be integrated with maps and directories using the Wordpress Plugins
- A demonstration of the Offers and Wants schema and how to make use of it on your site. Offers and Wants are the logical next step after mapping a network, and the Murmurations Wordpress Plugins provide a simple way to provide these for free, straight out of the box.
- Q&A
The Murmurations protocol is built on a set of composable fields and schemas which make distributed data interoperable, and a range of open source microservices - find out more on the links below:
- The main Mumurations website provides an introduction and project updates
- Use the Index Explorer to search the data in the Murmurations Index
- Use the Profile Generator to create, and optionally host, Murmurations Profiles
- Use the Index Updater to add, update or remove Profiles from the Index
- Use the Batch importer to register CSV data of multiple profiles with the Index
- See several demonstration maps and directories using the components above
- Check uptime via the Status reporting tool which shows the performance of the network
- Read the Docs for full details explaining how all the components can be used
