Lucid dreaming is an art that pretty much anyone and everyone can master. Lucidity can be an experience of bliss, of deep remembering beyond the individual, and it provides us with a reminder of the interconnectedness of all life and memory.

In this special session for the Psychedelic Society, dream researcher, author, and dream retreat guide Sarah Janes will take you through a Lucid Dreaming 101. We will review the mechanisms and triggers for episodes of lucidity in an attempt to work out a personal path towards the lucid state, if it is not something you are already familiar with.

This workshop will be jam-packed with useful information and a variety of approaches to attaining lucidity.  We will experiment with ten historical and well-established techniques widely regarded as among the most effective and reliable for inducing lucid dream episodes. Including:

  • Dreamweaving: Recording and working with dream themes in the waking world
  • Biphasic Sleep: Sleeping in dream ‘chapters’ to encourage dream memory.
  • Hypnagogic Meditation: Meditating into a dream and maintaining awareness of entering dreamspace
  • Aphrodisiac Dreams: Utilising sexual energy, orgasm, and sensual pleasure to encourage lucidity and dream-body awareness
  • Dream Scene Setting: Creatively inventing, describing, and manifesting dream experiences and goals
  • Personal Myth: Identifying life-long dream themes, motifs, and your own narrative arc and previous lucidity triggers, power, and weakness symbols
  • Dream Memory: Games, exercises, and suggested supplements/fumigations to enhance dream recall and improve memory
  • Recommendations for herbs and supplements
  • Cycling Senses Induction: Cycling through sensory perception as you're falling asleep
  • Storytelling Dreamwork: Reading and writing stories and working with your own dreams creatively and analytically
  • Impossible Movement Practice: Introducing the novel and ridiculous into the waking world, to encourage remembrance in dream spaces

All ticket-holders will receive a recording of the sessions and an audio-only file for offline hypnagogic meditation (to help you consciously enter dreamspace).

About Sarah Janes

Sarah runs workshops and events as Dream Mysteries. She is co-founder of Dream Palace Athens, for which she curated a 10-day artist residency, lecture series, workshop, and performance programme in Athens in 2023.

Sarah has collaborated with Rupert Sheldrake and the British Pilgrimage Trust to reinvigorate the practice of dream incubation at sacred sites around the UK.

Currently leading dreamwork retreats in the ancient incubation sanctuaries of the Mediterranean, Sarah is now based between the UK, Istanbul, and Archaia Epidavros in the Peloponnese, where she lives on the road of a small ancient theatre, a place where pilgrims once began their journey to the holistic healing sanctuary of Asklepios and Apollo Maleatus 10km down the road.

Sarah’s book: Initiation into Dream Mysteries: Drinking from the Pool of Mnemosyne explores the history and culture of dreaming in the Western esoteric tradition and is available from all book sellers and on Audible.
