Psychedelics & Chaos Magic: The Fluidity of Reality & Weird Happenings - Talk & Q&A with Julian Vayne

Chaos magic holds that belief is a tool rather than a truth. In this approach, different belief systems are seen as interchangeable "reality tunnels" whereby one can adopt a practice for a ritual and discard it afterwards.

In this upcoming talk, psychedelic occultist and author Julian Vayne will explore how the psychedelic experience can illuminate core ideas of chaos magic:  the instability of reality, the fluidity of belief and the possibility of transformation. He will discuss how altered states offer a direct, felt encounter with reality as mutable and the self as something we continually create. 

Expect an exploration of magical practice, weird history, strange gods and the art and science of changing your mind.

About Julian Vayne

Julian is one of Britain’s most respected psychedelic thinkers and ritual practitioners, with over forty years immersed in magic, meditation, and entheogenic ceremony. A leading voice in contemporary occultism and co-organiser of Breaking Convention, Julian bridges deep tradition with modern psychedelic culture.

He is the acclaimed author of many works, including the celebrated Getting Higher and his newest book, Trip Sitting. Julian teaches internationally, mentors practitioners, and leads ceremony informed by chaos magic, tantra, and earth based spirituality. His work invites curiosity, creativity, and grounded exploration, offering a rare blend of scholarship, lived experience, and visionary insight.

Venue & Accessibility

The Steam Crane is an independent pub located on North Street, Bristol with a stylish function room used for a variety of events. The function room is up a short flight of stairs and so unfortunately has limited accessibility. Our team can try and help accommodate where possible.
