Solidarity Funding for Democratic Technology

The calls for alternatives to big US Tech are getting louder. The relationship we have with the services we use every day has changed, and people globally want more open, secure and neutral alternatives.

And the answer lies in community: specifically what we can build when our values are at the forefront.

Solidarity funding empowers regular people to vote and back ideas through pooled resources. Those closest to the work decide what matters, and we all align the output to the future we wish to see.

This webinar brings together Bread Cooperative, the Democratic Tech Fund, and the Free Knowledge Institute to show how this works in practice. You'll see the solidarity funding model that Bread has run monthly for over two years, hear how it's being adapted for democratic technology projects, and learn how your community can start funding the things it cares about.

The session closes with a look ahead to the launch of the Democratic Tech Crowd Fund platform on 29 October.
