Sacred Activist Collective: a space for justice-hearted souls to root, gather and rise

We are a community of justice-hearted souls who care deeply, for the Earth, for each other, and for a liberated world.

We honour our interconnection with all life: land and lineage, breath and body, ancestors and animals, soil and stars. We gather to remember our sacred responsibility and our collective power to create the world we long for.

We host free online gatherings every two weeks, with an intention to lighten the weight of the world with practices that strengthen our bodymind, deepen our connections, and awaken our personal and collective power. Our spaces follow a living rhythm:

🌱 Root: Create space within your bodymind to release tension, process emotion, and return to your centre through embodied, creative, and restorative practices.
🌀 Gather: Come together in community to witness and be witnessed, share truth, and remember that our struggles and hopes are carried more lightly when held collectively.
🔥 Rise: Anchor into your inner and collective power, reclaim your agency, and practice the liberatory ways of being that move us toward a freer world.

You might call yourself a social activist, environmentalist, advocate, artist, change-maker, Earth-warrior, ally or you might not. No matter how you define or show your care for the world, this space is for you, because you need collective care too.

Rise: “We teach life, Sir”

A community-created gathering of songs, poetry, short stories and art to celebrate Palestinian culture

This week marks three years since Israel's current genocide against the Palestinian people began. Three years of an entire peoples being dehumanised, continuing to be erased, live-streamed on our phones, with no end in sight to the relentless violence.

When we picture Palestine, the heartbreaking images that most of us see are those of death,  rubble and grief. And yet, we know that our Palestinian siblings are so much more. They are poets, musicians, dancers, farmers, teachers, comedians, lovers, a culture that has never stopped creating, laughing, and living, even under siege. As poet Rafeef Ziadah writes, “We Palestinians wake up every morning to teach the rest of the world life, Sir.”

To humanise and celebrate Palestinian life, under genocide, is an act of resistance. For generations, Palestinians have shown the world what it means to endure, to create, to love, and to keep living, in the face of a machine built to erase them. As the scholar Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian names it, to speak Palestine is an insistence on the reality that Palestine, and its indigenous people, exist. So in this gathering, we speak Palestine, out loud, together.

This is a community-created space. You're warmly invited to bring a poem, a story, a piece of art, a song, a short clip, anything by a Palestinian artist, writer or voice that has moved you, or something you've made yourself in response. Let us know in advance if you'd like a place in the running order by sending me an email (hello@zairamughal.com) or whatsapp message in the Sacred Activist Group. You’re also welcome to not share at all. Your presence, love and solidarity is enough.

As always, all of your grief, rage, joy, sorrow, hope and everything in between is welcome. We hold this space rooted in one truth: free Palestine, until Palestine is free.

How we’ll flow together

  • Opening prayer and grounding
  • Community sharing, poems, stories, art and clips, from sign-ups and the open floor
  • Held silence and space to name whatever's arising, grief, rage, joy, whatever comes
  • A closing co-regulation practice, digesting together as a community
  • Closing prayer

This is for you if:

  • You want to witness and celebrate Palestinian culture, not only Palestinian suffering
  • You have a poem, story, artwork or piece of Palestinian art you want to share, or want to witness others sharing
  • You believe naming genocide, and saying Palestine, out loud, is itself an act of resistance
  • You're carrying grief, rage, numbness, or hope about Palestine and want somewhere real to bring it
  • You want to be in community with what you're witnessing, rather than alone with it

What You’ll Need:

  • A poem, story, artwork, song or clip you'd like to share, entirely optional, no pressure to bring anything
  • Paper and pen if you'd like to write or reflect
  • Camera off if you prefer, mic off unless you're sharing
  • Your full self, whatever that looks like tonight

In this space, we ask that you commit to:

  • Showing up exactly as you are. Your humanity with its grief, sorrow, rage, inspiration, joy, hope and everything in between is welcome.
  • Being respectful and reflective about opinions, perspectives and lived experiences that are different to yours.
