Once, Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly—a butterfly flitting about, content and at ease, knowing nothing of Zhou. Suddenly, he awoke and was Zhou again—solid and real. He could not tell whether he was Zhou who had dreamed of being a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming of being Zhou. Yet, between Zhou and the butterfly, there must be a distinction. This is what is called the transformation of things.

The experience of dreaming is wildly different from dreamer to dreamer and from dream to dream. Almost everyone dreams nightly, but many forget their dreams entirely upon waking, or only experience fragmentary, vague forms. The digital dimensions, and daily distractions of modern life seem to have resulted in a real
desertification of natural dreamspace for many.

The curious, the questing, and those who have never known vivid dreams, have often sought novel ways of entering oneiric otherworlds. Now you can even go to the extreme of purchasing a 10k ticket to hang out with ‘DMT entities’ in the Akashic circus tent for an afternoon. These type of DMTx journeys are made possible by intravenous administration and can produce a prolonged psychedelic state lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. They are often facilitated by a constellation of tech bros, corporate networkers, web marketers, salacious scientists, and en(theo)trepreneurs.

Something about dreaming is obviously absolutely essential to the human experience. In this talk and Q&A, Sarah Janes will discuss ancient Greek, Egyptian, and Mesopotamian conceptions of the dream, death, visionary realms, and entity encounters. She will compare these to psychedelic worlds, and discuss how the ancients may help us to understand, navigate, and integrate our sleeping and waking dreams.

This session will include a 20-minute guided hypnagogic meditation into dreamspace. Participants will receive a recording of the meeting and separate audio file with the meditation so you can listen offline.
