Apple Core! Apple picking party at Ragmans Lane Permaculture Farm

Join the Apple Core for ten days of community apple picking and preserving at Ragmans Lane  permaculture orchard farm in Gloucestershire!

This is an invitation to join a community of Old Tree folk who are passionate about conserving our small orchards and biodiversity through a revival of social scrumping culture. Come and learn a huge amount about all things apples, share a joyful few days on the farm, make new friends and get involved in the culture of apple harvesting, preservation and orchard care in the South West. We are aiming to accommodate 20 people throughout these ten days and make a super positive impact to the land and orchards. There are over 25 heritage apple varieties dripping off over 700 trees here and most important thing is wasting as little of this glorious fruit as possible!!

What's the Deal?

Stay with us for as many nights as you like. Simply select a ticket for each night you'd like to join us from the list below. We'll be staying together in the communal bunkhouse with its own show block, decent toilet facilities and kitchen. There's a lovely sheltered spot outside where we can have a fire, play music and sing in the evenings and there‘s a hot tub if requested!

Will I have to pay for anything?

This year we have to make a contribution to the Ecological Land Cooperative to hire out the bunk house but we’ve made it as affordable as possible  - all food and drink is included in exchange for your help apple picking, and the only cost is your bed, which is priced on a sliding scale of £4–£8 per night, so please choose what you're able to contribute to help us break even on this.

You'll be fully catered for, with 3 freshly prepared meals a day cooked by our friend Kwame, who specialises in delicious vegan and vegetarian wholefoods, cooking for maximum nutrition. And on top of that, we are offering all you can drink Old Tree Kombucha on tap for all volunteers all week.

What should I bring?

Please bring a sleeping bag for the bunkhouse, and maybe even a hot water bottle! The accommodation is bunk-bed dorms, so you might want earplugs too if you have trouble sleeping.

October days in the orchard can be chilly and wet, so pack plenty of warm clothes and waterproof shoes. Last year cozy board games nights were popular after work in the evenings and  on the clear nights we had fire outside so  bring your poems, songs and any instruments for that!
