Into the Quiet: Autumnal Herbal Medicine, Yoga & Nidra

Sunday 17 November | 1-5pm | Beechwood Club, Fishponds BS16 3TP

The final workshop in our seasonal cycle, come and connect with late autumn by learning about the elements, herbalism skills, yoga and deeply restful yoga nidra (meaning “sleep” 😌).

Late autumn is the air element, the shifting winds as the energies change; the drawing in, rooting down, the coming of the quiet time 🌬️

Deeply experienced medical herbalist Helen White will guide us through the winds of autumn, with the different ways the air element is understood in the body from traditional Chinese and Greco-Roman medicine. In this season, we look mainly to berries and roots for their medicinal benefits. Helen will teach us ways to harvest, prepare and use some of these herbal treasures, discussing the reasons we may choose to use them, and Helen will demonstrate a nourishing, delicious autumn cordial with recipes for you to take home.

Putting your learning into practice, we'll enjoy herbal tasters and make our own incense using autumn plants, for you to enjoy at home or gift to a loved one.

We continue to recognise the environment within the body with a yoga practice for all levels, facilitated by 550+ hour trained teacher Hannah Embleton-Smith. In movement, we begin to explore harnessing the winds ("vayus" in Sanskrit) of the body, empowering us to come into relationship with the movement of our vital energy.  We'll play with elemental mantra and balance steady and restorative asana to experience the vayus, before calming the winds and softening into the stillness of yoga nidra. A chance to restore deeply and go nourished into the dark evening.

About us

Helen has been practising as a community herbalist for the past 8 years, with a firm belief in herbal medicine as “people’s medicine”. She has held a lifelong interest in the healing power of plants, and after years of using herbal remedies for herself and her family, she followed her dream of training as a medical herbalist. Through sharing her knowledge, Helen aims to demystify the preparation and use of herbal medicines and bring them back into everyday use and on our kitchen shelves, where they belong.

Hannah is a 550+ hour trained yoga facilitator, with a practice rooted in non-dual Śaiva tantra. Among her teachers, past and present, are Sam Burkey, Sarah Harlow, Christopher Gladwell, Christopher Wallis, Prem Sadasivananda, Atiya Khan, Becky Szwandt and Uma Dinsmore-Tuli, as well as being guided by the teachings of ancient sages including Vasugupta and Abhinavagupta through the texts.
