We invite you to retreat and resource with us for a daylong on loving awareness. The Buddha taught loving awareness his whole life. From his first and early teachings, the Buddha taught to radiate loving awareness in all directions. Towards the end of his life, he described the culmination of loving awareness as noticing the radiance of things themselves —what he called in his words, “the liberation of just being beautiful.”
Through step-by-step loving awareness practices, we are led to see the beautiful in all things is liberation. The practice of non-reactivity liberates a layer of preferences that lies hidden beneath the conscious layer. This is not passive. We are actively freeing the preferences that govern our lives and cover the natural radiant beauty of all things.
Part retreat, part workshop. Part ancient practice, part fresh seeing. Eyes open, eyes closed. Modernizing this ancient practice, we will be looking clearly at the act of seeing, not just the objects of seeing. We will also use certain Headless Way experiments developed by Douglas Harding.
Greg and I are excited to offer you the opportunity to unlock your potential to see the beautiful in all things in this ancient loving awareness practice with a modern twist.
What to bring: Please bring a vegetarian dish to share, water bottle, comfortable clothing, shawl, journal, sun visor, etc. Also, please bring a small object you find beautiful and another one you find unbeautiful. For this it's best to start slowly and use a personal item that has meaning to you, but it should have a neutral quality as well, like an old attachment you're willing to let go of.
