Functional mushrooms are moving rapidly from the fringes of the wellness sector into more mainstream areas of health. Crossovers in food and nutrition have provided a wide range of products for consumers to choose from, with many people beginning to see the benefits of introducing different types of fungi into their lives.
Join us for the first of an upcoming series of World Mushroom Forum events, where we'll be exploring functional mushrooms such as Lion's Mane, Reishi, Cordyceps and discussing what the future of this industry looks like with some experts in the field.
This panel brings together experts from across the mushroom world to explore the future of functional mushrooms, from emerging research and extraction technologies to product development, regulation, sustainability and consumer education. Expect a wide-ranging conversation which covers the current opportunities, challenges, consumer demands, unanswered questions, and latest research which will shape the future of the industry.
SPEAKERS
SETH COLCHESTER
Seth Colchester is the founder of Mycogenius, a functional mushroom extract brand based in the Netherlands, and FunctionalMushrooms.eu, a B2B supply operation serving brands and co-packers across Europe. His work focuses on establishing species-specific quality benchmarks for the functional mushroom industry, moving beyond generic beta-glucan testing to verify the compounds that actually define each species. Every Mycogenius batch is tested in ISO 17025-accredited laboratories with results published via QR code on the packaging. Through the B2B side of the business, Seth has a unique perspective on the gap between what appears on supplement labels and what independent testing actually reveals.

DR AYMAN TURK
Dr. Ayman Turk is a natural products and medicinal mushroom researcher based in South Korea. His work focuses on Cordyceps militaris, fungal fermentation, LC-MS/MS-based metabolite profiling, cordycepin production, and the development of high-value mushroom-derived bioingredients.

CRAIG FOURIE
Craig Fourie is the founder of Mushroom Guru and a technical pioneer in the field of functional mycology. With a background in Mechanical Engineering and as a highly qualified Artisan (Tool, Jig, and Die Maker), Craig applies the logic of high-precision manufacturing to the biological world. His unique "scientific artisan" approach has allowed him to "crack the code" on Ganoderma lucidum (Antler), developing a proprietary dual-extraction process that yields one of the most potent, lab-verified Reishi extracts available.
His work is driven by a deep fascination with the evolution of mankind and a talent for "joining the proverbial dots" between complex industrial systems and human biology. Craig believes that the same principles of structural integrity and system efficiency found in engineering are the keys to unlocking peak human wellness. When he is not refining extraction protocols, Craig is a dedicated wellness and fitness coach. A lifelong enthusiast of calisthenics and functional movement, he advocates for a holistic lifestyle that combines advanced nutritional science with the physical discipline required for long-term health.
