We're back after a break over the summer with another night of exceptional music in St Bartholomew's Church, as we welcome Claire Vine and Suzi MacGregor…
  

CLAIRE VINE is a folk singer and songwriter based in Machynlleth, Cymru. Her solo project fearlessly explores urgent themes of land rights, oppression, climate change and inequality, in timeless songs that sound like they've always existed. Using subtle electronics to layer her voice into a haunting choir, she creates a space for her listeners to collectively feel the grief expressed in her music, offering a moment of shared catharsis. She is also a skilled song-interpreter, delivering classics from the traditional/folk revival canon with a new and profound humanity.

Claire Vine released her debut solo album We Carve Our Path on 13 March 2026 on Bristol-based community label Cuculi Records, who also released her debut EP Tunnel in 2020. With a thread of unequivocal political urgency running throughout, this evocative collection features five original songs and five highly inventive interpretations of songs drawn from the traditional canon and the repertoire of folk legends Peggy Seeger and Ewan MacColl. She has also recently been granted the DYCP grant from Arts Council England, supporting her to develop her singing and songwriting craft alongside working on a series of collaborative song-writing workshops relating to climate justice and climate grief.

SUZI MACGREGOR is a Bristol-based vocalist & multi-instrumentalist with a knack for classic songcraft, imbuing her warm, soulful music with a sense of timelessness. She blends the ambitious folk melodies of Laurel Canyon with a more modern pop sensibility, spaciously delivered with gospel-infused grooves. 

MacGregor's forthcoming debut album Peregrina (out 27 Nov 2026 on Cuculi Records) is a compelling 11-track collection featuring an array of musicians from her newfound Bristol community, produced by Richard Lobb. The album moves smartly through a spectrum of musical moods, yet maintains a coherent continuity anchored by MacGregor's magnetic voice. Written over several years, Peregrina feels like a retrospective on her turbulent twenties, full of travel, change and heartbreak - but, beneath it all, a poignant story of recovery and reclamation.
 

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Join contemporary folk song writer Claire Vine for a collaborative, group songwriting workshop. This workshop is for everyone - even if you don’t consider yourself a musician, we will all work together to create a shared song. Songs for Change is a joyful exploration into how songwriting can be a vital form of expressing ourselves in times of uncertainty, with a focus on hope and creating change through telling positive stories.

We will invite participants to think about what change they would like to see in the world as a starting point and from here we will co-create a short, catchy song that you can take out into the world, share with all your friends… or maybe even sing at a protest!
