Come And Learn The Fine And Primal Art Of Crafting An Elm Wooden Bow .
We have been focusing on bows for 7 years at festivals, and teaching over 600 children and adults ,the art of wooden bow making.
This is a course for children and adults ! From 12 years and upwards .
This will be a weekend workshop on learning how to make a Flat/ Long hunting Bow of around 20 - 40 pounds . This bow if taken care of , should last many years . Elm is one of the strongest and toughest woods in the k , with a huge amount of flexibility too .You’ll learn how to craft your Bow using simple Bushcraft tools, utilising the knowledge and skill that’s been passed on from one generation of Bowyers to another over time.
You’ll finish this workshop with a Flat bow where you’ll know the timber was sustainably felled and prepared by us, using native species and traditional methods.
I will give a full axe , rasp and draw knife safety lecture, and explain proper use of them. Then you will start to work on your own piece of seasoned Elm , and I will take you through all the processes of layering out the bow ,shaping the profile and tillering.
Under full guidance ,you will slowly wittle away your own bow and we will endeavour to give you a solid foundation of bow making from start to finish so you can go home and make more!
Professional bow string will be made for each Bow .
Everybody who finishes their bow will make an arrow - depending on the time left, it will be a simple arrow or it can be a professional one if the students have enough time .
