Welcome to the Broke Cuties Foraging Club! This is a once-a-month, donation-based foraging workshop, intended to increase the accessibility of foraging for folks with lower incomes who can't otherwise afford to attend. All are warmly welcome, but the broke cuties who are particularly in need of some nature/foraging magic are extra encouraged to come along!
Join wild food guide Simka (they/them) for an afternoon wander into Grunewald forest, where we will get acquainted with the most common & delicious edible and medicinal wild autumn mushrooms growing in this area – no experience necessary.
Porcini, chanterelle, parasol, chicken of the woods, puffball, oyster… What's more iconic of autumn than brightly-colored mushrooms popping up out of the fallen leaves?
Together we'll explore the forest floor and learn the basics of how to find, identify, collect, and prepare the wild edible mushrooms that are currently in season. With a big focus on keeping yourself – and the land and its other inhabitants – safe while foraging, you will learn the basics of which mushrooms to stay away from – and how to get confident enough to bring your own harvest home.
This tour will place special emphasis on creating and sustaining community – both with other humans, and also with the non-human world.
The workshop language is English, though German mushroom names and other translation support is happily given along the way upon request.
All are welcome, regardless of income! Please donate within your capacity. If you are experiencing financial precarity, please donate whatever is comfortable for you. If you have secure income and/or savings, please choose a higher donation to help subsidize these tours for those who would otherwise be unable to attend.
I ask for a 5€ minimum donation because in my experience, people often register but don't show up for “free” events. However, if even 5€ is challenging to spare but you're committed to attending, just send me an email and I'll send you a special registration link.
To help give a donation framework, it might be useful to know that my usual mushroom foraging workshops cost 55€, and that I live off this income. Many thanks for your contribution!
When: Tuesday November 18th, 13:00 - 16:00
Where: Grunewald Forest (~ 4km walking in total)
Suggested donation: 20-35€. Please contribute whatever you can!
Please help maintain the accessibility of these tours by notifying me 24 hours or more before the start of the workshop if you do not intend to come (refunds, minus processing fees, are possible for tickets cancelled 48 hours or more in advance).
Once you are registered, you will receive an email with all details on what to bring and the exact meeting location.
The meeting and ending point for the tour are accessible with public transportation. The exact meeting point, along with what to bring, will be sent via email after registration. Don't forget to read your confirmation email carefully!

Registration and cancellation:
Once you register for the workshop, you'll receive an email with all details on the exact meeting location as well as what to bring.
The event will go ahead regardless of the weather. The mushrooms don't mind if it's wet! Please make sure to wear the clothing you need to keep you warm, dry & comfortable.
If you can't make the event, you may cancel by email up to 48 hours in advance. This ensures another participant can take your place. If you need to cancel, please indicate in your email whether you would rather receive a refund (minus Stripe processing fees) or a gift voucher (full amount).
Refunds/gift vouchers for cancellations within 48 hours of the event are not possible. Within 48 hours, you may transfer your ticket to someone else, but please make sure to let me know by email.
A note on pricing & philosophy:
It's a deep value of mine that this learning – which radically connects us with ourselves, the land, and one another – should be accessible for everyone, which is why I'm keeping my tours as low-price as I possibly can. This year, I'm trying out a new system to uphold this financial accessibility while keeping it sustainable for myself.
My standard workshops now have two ticket levels: Full price and Concession.
I also offer a fully donation-based community tour once a month throughout the season. This is open to everyone and anyone who is interested in learning about foraging and creating community around radical ways of relating to Berlin's human & non-human inhabitants. (Please note: it's not possible to pay for a donation-based community tour with a gift card.)
My intention with all of this is to earn a living wage while widening the reach of financial accessibility to more folks than I was able to with my previous sliding-scale model.
I'm grateful for you contributing financially in both a realistic and generous way. Thanks for being with me in navigating through the challenges of capitalism with justice, honesty and compassion!
