PNEUMA - The ancient Greek word for 'spirit' (prana, chi, qi)
What is the vibration of colour? What is the vibration of music? What is your individual and our collective vibration?
Sym (www.deepsym.com) is an interactive art object that visualises breathing in light, using custom sensors worn on the belly. Sym caters to up to 4 at a time with each person’s breath visualised as a different colour. As the breaths sync, Sym radiates with rainbows!
Sym encourages deep slow diaphragmatic breathing which activates the parasympathetic nervous system and creates a state of calm. A unique opportunity to deeply connect to the breath in a tangible form and connect to others without words.
Echoes of the unknown is a collective redefining contemporary music and sound healing in sacred space.
Hosting concerts bringing together artists from different musical backgrounds and cultures, we aim to bring awareness about styles and playing techniques and explore how different genres can merge and work in harmony. Expect new, improvised soundscapes and meditation music... in a silent space.
We encourage a no phone, no talking, no clapping environment.
What to expect
Kira, Deep Sym Founder, will guide the participants through calming breathing techniques, opening up the diaphragm, sharing the fundamentals of this essential practice. Towards the end of the session, we will attempt to synchronise breathing patterns and see how long we can sustain the rainbows with coherent breathing to enter a deeply meditative state.
From this collective meditative state, the sound journey will take over and you will get the unique opportunity to observe (literally in rainbows!) how music influences your breath, your spirit, your PNEUMA.
6pm: doors open (tea will be available)
6.30pm: guided breathwork with Sym
7pm: Music starts
8pm: soft closing
Pneuma really is a journey through the senses. From smelling and tasting herbal tea, to using a belt around your diaphragm to connect you to your breath, to seeing your own breath turn into light as you are bathed in sacred sounds. We look forward to welcome you!
Musicians
Catarina Carvalho is a classically trained singer graduate from Trinity Laban Conservatoire and sound artist with a strong interest in the relationship between sound/music and health and wellbeing.
Catarina is the founder of Echoes of the Unknown, leading other wellbeing concerts and soundbaths alongside. Adding to her work in yoga studios and schools, Catarina also runs community choirs and singing groups for people living with dementia. She strongly believes that music and sound are universal languages, and they have the power to bring us back to ourselves, but also to connect with each other, empowering society overall.
Born and raised in Hackney, Alex Dmochowski has been around music from all over the world since a young age. After first picking the clarinet at 6 years old and the saxophone at 12, Alex went on to graduate from Trinity Laban Conservatoire. He currently leads his own band, 'In the name of Ra', and alongside plays music from varied and rich cultures in bands with musicians from Ghana, India, and South America. Each of these projects continue to inspire and humble him on a daily basis, heavily influencing his own work.
