With open arms and hearts, we invite you to The Spring Jam 2025, nestled in the rolling Devonshire hills.
Together, we will cohabit and create a weekend centered around the practice of contact improvisation jamming. As the days grow lighter and spring breathes life into the land, we will gather to dance, connect, and nourish ourselves with a loving dance floor, wholesome food, and a warming sauna experience.
Experience
In this time we will create a nourishing community held in the form of CI, there will be space to learn, dance, rest, play and sing. The event will orientate around the focus of the CI jams, open spaces to practice and play with the art of CI, there will also be workshops led by Harriet and David to help inform the jams. There will be live music, recorded music and silence.
Jamming takes place when we agree to engage with the practice of Contact Improvisation together - this includes partner, group and solo dances, it includes witnessing, observing, drawing, listening, researching, questioning, playing, pausing. We will hold open jam spaces as well as contained offerings with scores, particular focus' and consensus to be ‘in’. The practice of jamming evokes our awareness and commitment to improvisation, our bodies, non-verbal time, group tuning, composition and surprise. Jamming is central to the practice of CI, what we aim toward in learning technique, here is our chance to play!
Some experience in contact improvisation is required. This event will include a few classes in CI to help inform the jams. It will create space for questioning, research and labbing in and between jams.
If you're unsure whether this space is right for you, please do get in touch.

Harriet Roberts:

Harriet is a dedicated practitioner of Contact Improvisation, with over a decade of experience in both teaching and practice. She hosts thoughtfully curated courses, events and workshops in the UK, drawing on her extensive training in contemporary dance, somatic practice, and hands-on therapy to offer a holistic, embodied approach to movement. Harriet’s playful, practical and poetic teaching style invites dancers of all levels to explore connection and creativity through Contact Improvisation.
David Basak:
David is passionate about Contact Improvisation, having practiced this dance form for over 10 years, it has become his main ‘practice’ and lifestyle choice. His interest is in the layers beneath the dance form, the intimate learning that can happen between self and other when we drop out of words and into the relational somatic body. He has experienced much growth through the subtleties of CI and aspires to share his experience and learning for deeper, richer and juicier meetings with self and other.
