Walking the Isle of Avalon in Gratitude

A Community Pilgrimage of Gratitude, Remembrance & Connection

Saturday 25th July | 10.00am–1.00pm | Glastonbury

The Sacred Death Centre warmly invites you to join us for a community gratitude walk through the sacred landscape of Avalon.

As we move towards the close of summer, we gather to give thanks, for the land that holds us, for the community that walks beside us, and for all that has unfolded through the Sacred Death Centre over the past year.

Avalon has long been known as the Isle of Eternal Love and the Land of the Dead. For centuries, people have made pilgrimage here seeking healing, remembrance, wisdom, and transformation. As we walk these ancient paths together, we will honour this sacred landscape through simple ceremony, offering our gratitude to the land and deepening our relationship with the place that has quietly supported so much of our work.

Our pilgrimage will also be an opportunity to reflect on the grief we have shared together throughout the year. We recognise that grief and gratitude are not opposites, but companions. As we honour the people, hopes, and dreams we have lost, we also give thanks for the love that continues to live within us and for the precious gift of being alive.

Our Pilgrimage

We will gather at the bottom of Dod Lane before setting off together in gentle reflection.

Our journey will include:

• Visiting the Grandmother Lime Tree to pause, connect, and make simple offerings of gratitude.
• Walking in pilgrimage to Glastonbury Tor, carrying prayers of remembrance, gratitude, and blessing.
• Taking time to reflect on the grief we have tended in community over the past year and the resilience, love, and connection that has grown alongside it.
• Closing in the circle of trees within Fairfield, at the foot of the Tor, with song, gratitude, and celebration.

Throughout the walk we will make simple offerings to the land using natural materials, honouring our relationship with the Earth and acknowledging all that she continually offers us.

This is a gentle community walk. You are welcome to participate in as much or as little of the ceremony as feels right for you. There is no expectation to speak, only an invitation to walk with intention and an open heart.

Please Bring

• Comfortable walking shoes
• Weather-appropriate clothing
• Water
• A small natural offering if you wish (such as flower petals, herbs, leaves, or a prayer written on biodegradable paper)
• Any snacks you may need to keep your energy up during the walk.

Time: 10.00am
We aim to finish by 1.00pm.
